Medical Aesthetic Trends 2020

There’s no end to it.  Instant celebrity hacks, makeovers and tutorials to the techniques for clicking the perfect selfie, you might’ve come across them. YouTube and Instagram is constantly flooded with videos that could better your art of selfie-improvement. Still, however, many choose to get help from plastic ans Aesthetic procedures such as fillers to achieve the same results.

As a Medical Aesthetics Practitioner and writer, I’ve trialed pretty much every non-invasive Aesthetic procedure on the market, from Botox, Fillers, Skin Peels to fat-freezing in the name of research, to assisting  cosmetic operations from Abdominoplasty, Rhinolplasty, Breast Augmentation to eyelid lifts.

Trends in treatments come and go, with scientific, medical and technological advancements enabling progress all the time.  Here are the most sought after Aesthetic Trends  and Procedures of 2020.

The ‘O Shot’

The O-Shot is a nonsurgical procedure that utilises natural growth factors each woman has in her own body. This process is called PRP, which stands for platelet-rich plasma. PRP  utilises platelets found in the blood to derive growth factors from. From here, these growth factors can be safely re-injected into the body where tissue growth is required.

The O-Shot procedure is relatively easy.

Once extracted, the blood sample is injected into an area by the clitoris and into the upper area of the vagina. The vaginal area is numbed with a local anesthetic cream prior to the procedure so patients feel little to no pain or discomfort.

While every woman is different, these are of the things patients have experienced following the O-Shot procedure helps with Improved urinary stress incontinence, Increased arousal, Younger, smoother skin on the vulvae

and  Increased lubrication to name a few of the benefits.

CoolSculpting , CoolTone & EmSculpt

CoolSculpting targets stubborn pockets of fat that won’t go away, no matter how much exercise or dieting you employ. This non-surgical procedure uses handheld applicators to suction your skin while a cooling mechanism freezes it, destroying fat cells below the surface of the skin.

We will see the new CoolTone hit the  UK clinics. This will complement CoolSculpting by providing muscle hypertrophy once the fat bulk has been reduced with CoolSculpting.

EmSculpt is a non surgical body shaping and fat reduction treatment that not only reduces fat but helps to tone and strengthen the muscles in the areas treated. EmSculpt treatment is able to contract the muscles beyond what is possible through physical training, producing improved muscle tone and enhanced fat metabolism.

High Definition LipoSculpture, or VASER Hi DefTM

High Definition LipoSculpture, or VASER Hi DefTM is an advanced body sculpting technique that creates an athletic, sculpted appearance. It works through the removal of both superficial and deep fat that surrounds muscle groups .

The method can be performed on multiple body areas, but the most popular include: Abdomen, Chest , Waist, Back, Buttocks, Arms, Flanks & Thighs.

Firstly, local anaesthetic is administered to the chosen area(s) to numb the site. A VASER probe, which is around 3-mm in diameter, then emits an ultrasonic fat-specific wave, which breaks down the fat cells.

The Surgeon/Physician will  then  be able to sculpt and define the underlying muscles through a gentle suction process which causes minimal damage  to  the surrounding tissues.

MicroLipo

MicroLipo is a minimally invasive liposuction, fat removal and body sculpting procedure aimed to enhance your body’s contour, definition and physique.

MicroLipo gets its name from the tiny size of the cannulas used to extract the fat, the smallest of which is just 0.9mm wide and the largest of which is 3mm. The technique can remove up to 3.5 litres of fat.

Micro lipo is ideal for many areas of the body including: Abdomen, Chest , Waist, Back, Buttocks, Arms, Flanks & Thighs.

Micro lipo gently removes excess fat cells from the area being treated. Patients are then put on a bespoke management programme that involves regular lymphatic massage and specially designed and professionally fitted compression garments.

Keyhole FaceLift.

This is essentially a keyhole facelift;

The surgeon inserts a fine cannula in each incision and numbs the face with a mix of local anaesthetic and saline solution to protect the veins and arteries from being disturbed or broken.

2 mm incisions are made on the sides of the cheeks, the jaw and under the chin. He then inserts a probe that fires out radio-frequency energy, which tightens the skin by about 30 to 40 per cent to lift the face.

For a deeper lift, the deep muscular tissue can be pulled with dissolvable internal stitches at the same time. The procedure takes around two hours, usually with a local anaesthetic. The effects last for three to five years.

Fat Grafting for Hair

Fat grafting for the hair is achieved by using fat injections to thicken up sparse hairlines.

Your own fat, harvested from your bottom or thighs, is filtered into a liquid and injected into the scalp to reactivate the growth cycle of healthy and dormant hair follicles.

The Physician numbs the scalp before using about 40 syringes of treated fat to deliver 800 injections in rapid succession.

After a few months, the weak, wispy hair appears to thicken up and look more glossy with new growth coming through three months later.

Fibroblast  Plasma

Fibroblast is an absolute revolutionary procedure which requires zero surgery. It is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that is designed to tighten and lift the skin, shrinking excess skin, crow's feet, bags and wrinkles.

During the procedure tiny plasma flash also referred as an electrical arc is being discharged from the tip of the hand-piece. The tool itself never touches the skin however plasma flash creates a tiny dot upon the contact.

Effects are noticeable right away with full results become visible after 2-4 weeks. Patients can resume regular activities right away with minimal discomfort.

HA's for Rejuvenation

Unlike typical dermal fillers, a new wave of hyaluronic acid injectables, including Volite from Juvéderm, Profhilo® and Teoxane Redensity 1, promise to work on the condition of the skin.

Injectable re-hydration treatments are made of hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a natural component of human skin. HA is a water binding molecule that can hold 10,000 times its weight in water and as we get older, our bodies produce less and less of it.

HA is made up of long chains and each draws and holds water. In dermal fillers the modified cross links  together and stays put where it’s injected to create volume.  With injectable moisturiser treatments, the hyaluronic acid  spreads itself evenly throughout the face to draw water along the way,  this will hydrate the skin but not volumise it and leads to a  more healthier  texture.

Body-Shaping Injectables

Cellulite, indentations in and around the buttocks and thighs  are a source of persistent concern, especially in a tight dress or skinny trousers. Others long for an indent-free rounded peach of a bottom.

Body-shaping injectables, only really started to infiltrate here in the UK in the past couple of years.

The procedure consists of injecting with Sculptra, injectable filler made from poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic gel that’s used in dissolvable stitches.

After two months you can have a top-up if needed. These injections last around a year and stimulate collagen production to restore lost volume on the upper part of the buttocks caused by ageing.

NOSE ENHANCEMENT WITH THREAD LIFT & LIP LIFTS

Nose Thread Lift is quickly becoming one of the more sought-after treatments when it comes to achieving a more natural appearance - surpassing the popularity of nose fillers when it comes to non-surgical rhinoplasty.

LIP LIFTS

A lip lift is designed to raise the edges of the lips and define the cupid’s bow to make the mouth look more prominent. It’s a permanent procedure that shortens the space between the top of the lip and the bottom of the nose to fit the face. It can be done in under an hour and gives a more natural look to fuller, plump lips

NOSE-SCULPTING

An ultrasonic rhino-sculpture emits ultrasonic energy to reshape the nose without damaging cartilage and soft tissue. This energy emitting device specifically targets the bone and leaves the surrounding tissues unharmed. It’s much safer, less traumatic, and results in little to no swelling or bruising compared to traditional rhinoplasty surgery.

Current rhinoplasty techniques leave a higher risk for irregularities in the bone as well as considerable tissue trauma to both the bone and surrounding tissues.

INJECTABLES TO RESTORE

& REJUVENATE

We expect the trend to maintain its popularity and so injectables i.e. Botox and dermal fillers will probably continue to be in demand in 2020.

For cheeks, lips, fine lines, hollowed areas, and nose, fillers can be used to achieve a younger, healthier look. Within a day, you can see the results of the procedures for yourself, and it won’t have a long tiresome recovery period.

SKIN FACIALS AND PEELS

Good skin care can smooth pores, reduce lines and wrinkles, eliminate uneven pigmentation, and help prevent sagging. While a good daily skin care routine is important, more specialized treatments such as chemical peels, lasers, and facials are necessary. One of the most popular treatment for 2020 is the HydraFacial. This treatment combines hydration, exfoliation, extraction, and peels in a single treatment. Having a professional skin treatment, such as HydraFacial or EscarGlow facial,.

LASER TATTOO & PERMANENT MAKE UP REMOVAL

We’ve all  have come across those that have branded there skin and regretted later. Tattoos and permanent makeup can be removed through laser treatments. Removing pigment/ink can be quite complicated and you’ll need an expert to remove them.  Tattoo removal lasers  are mostly available with specific devices used to erase unwanted body art such as PicoSure, PicoWay,PiQo4, and Q-switched Alexandrite, Q-switched Ruby and Accupulse fractionated CO2, Er:YAG lasers (e.g., Ultrapulse CO2 and Sciton Er:YAG) to remove tattoos and permanent makeup
